Hello Janie; I have done this before.
Please insure that your Basket will be large enough to hold the pot.
Target as well as Pier One, Amazon and Home Depot have very large baskets.
Good Luck! Have fun with your project!! Take Care!

Janie, Hello :) I don't know what shape your 16 inch pot is but I had an immediate picture in my head of another pot (similar to the one pictured below)

with a "fishermans net" type of macrame wrapped around it, and a bit of it left sort of dangling in the extra space inside around the two pots (to make it easier for moving) with some E6000 glue holding it in place (like this type of macrame netting -- either you could do it or perhaps buy some)

OR just have the larger pot wrapped with rope and painted an ombre style (color of your choice) going from dark to light bottom to top or maybe something like this ... http://i1.wp.com/www.makingjoyandprettythings.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/IMG_4294-1.jpg?resize=680%2C907
THEN I thought "WRAP IT UP AND SPIT GLUE IT INTO PLACE WITH SEVERAL FAVORITE COLORS OF YARN" because then it would reflect something personal about you. ... like these pots for example:

So those were my thoughts ... oh .. and a decoupage thought too, whether on another, larger, pot or even on a rope or woven basket.... some picture that reflects YOUR style, of course ;) Have fun with it~ Thanks for coming to Hometalk for ideas :)
Just an idea that you could buy a plastic trash container the size to fit the pot and then hot glue either burlap or decorative craft nautical rope to give the effect of a basket. Then if your plant leaks water it won't ruin your flooring either.
