The ladder is beautiful as is, but if you really love espresso colors, try a stain and go step by step. You will see the grain through the stain so it won't loose it's character, and if you want to go darker, just add another layer. you might want to apply wax over the rope first so it doesn't get quite so dark, and would be a nice accent as the wood gets darker.
It would work well in a bathroom to display special towels or in a bedroom hall way to hold antique or special blankets or quilts.
My friend had a cute ladder very similar to yours. She had it in the corner of her dining room with vintage tablecloths and kitchen towels hanging over the rungs. Very cute!
Hello Lola; Your ladder is Lovely!!! It looks like it is an Antique.
I personally would not stain it, as it might hurt the price that it is worth.
It looks Stunning against the wall.
It would be quite Lovely with Antique textiles hung on it.
That is what I would use it for, if it were mine!!!
I hope that this helps you!!! Take Care!
I love the ladder, as-is! But it would love great dark, as well.
I think its really your decision and no one else opinion. If thats the color you like go for it.Personally I would use it as a cent piece without anything on it.
I'm guessing your using it in the bathroom, which is perfect for adding pretty towels for displaying and maybe hang your favorite book from one of the rungs. Look around your bathroom and match to the trim or counter top and if staining your iffy about spray paint it using light coats.
Enjoy! That will be gorgeous with a native american throw or anything colorful!
Lola, You are very Welcome!!!
