Good Morning Jane, It really doesn't matter which BRAND you use as long as it is cotton or cotton blend because polyester, wool, etc just won't work right. "If you are considering working with blended cotton, cotton and soy blends make excellent choices. Yarns with a cotton and soy blend may be softer and easier on your hands. You just need to insure that the yarn blend is mostly cotton. The cotton portion of the yarn is the material that is holding the moisture, so it stands to reason that you should stick with a 70/30 or even 80/20 cotton blend. I've not crocheted in a few years, and when I was learning to crochet I made some discloths using Red Heart, and once I got the hang of a simply straight crochet stitch and turning the work, I proceeded to make two KING SIZED crocheted blankets for my two granddaughters. I completed both within 10 months and that was the last of my crocheting (carpal tunnel).
I've posted a link below that I think you will find interesting:

So that has been the extent of my experience and knowledge in crocheting, so far, but I hope to do some small projects soon. Thanks for asking HOMETALK for input :)
Cotton, they have it at joanns
My mom (and I) like Lily's Sugar and Cream. I will tell you though, last year I bought her Scrubby yarn by Red Heart, (it is kind of rubbery and textured) and they make FANTASTIC Scrubbies. I found that the cotton ones wear out much quicker than this Scrubby yarn and most of the people in our family are now asking for them as gifts.
My very favorite is called "I Love This Cotton", but it is only available through Hobby Lobby. When I cannot get that kind, I use Lily's Sugar and Cream. The first one is a much softer, smoother grade...and feels absolutely wonderful for a face cloth. If you do not have a Hobby Lobby near you, you may be able to find it online as well. The skeins are larger than a Sugar and Cream skein, so I can get two cloths from each one....so it comes out cheaper as well.
