Something with a non-slip surface for sure, travertine is real popular.
If you are talking about an exterior entrance that is exposed to weather, etc....you will need to use a tile that is made for exterior areas....such as porcelain tile, slate tile, etc. They will withstand the heat/cold/rain/etc that exterior surfaces encounter.
What ever you select - please for safety reasons make it non slip - they have tiles of this nature for around swimming pools.
