you would be better off painting the grout. I have done this is three houses so far and will be doing it in this newest house. The paint seals the grout and prevents stains and dirt from soaking in. I love painted grout. It's so easy and inexpensive to do! Go to Hobby Lobby, get small bottle of craft acrylic paint , put small amount on paper plate, dip your finger in paint then run over grout line. If you are painting north to south, then take a damp paper towel and wipe east to west and the paint will stay on the grout but wipes off the tile. I do about 10 sq ft a night until I get it all done. It wears great! Forget the scrubbing trying to clean grout unless you just like to work.
I use a mixture of vinegar water, ratio of 1:10 (1 being the vinegar). I spray it on and then use a scrub brush. When I'm done, I rinse it down. If your grout is really stained and dirty, it'll take a little bit for the acidity in the vinegar to eat through that stain, but it will eventually clean right up. I use this same solution on my tile floors and it works great.
I have sprinkled baking soda over the grout lines and then spray with vinegar, let the reaction occur, then scrub the lines with a wet cloth and this works pretty well!
The Turbo cleaners are the best to clean grout. They cost $39.99 and can be ordered on the internet OR Walmart carries them now. Other department stores may carry them by now also. They take the hard out of hard cleaning. We love ours.
You'll need a cleanser with bleach, once it is clean & dry reseal it with grout sealer, they have it at Lowe's & Home Depot.
