How about making a slip cover for it... use a heaver duty fabric , canvas, or a 2nd hand carpet...

You could go black, and maybe a deep red, or dark blue. Depends on how dark your brown is.

Look at shoe leather dye. My husband would use it on my military low quarters and they were abused as I wore them so much. Worth a try.
