Fill it up with succulents and leave the crate like it is.
I have seen people use them as shadow boxes for collections that are able to fit in the sections. I saw one cute one with thimbles arranged in the little cubicles. You could line part of each with cloth that goes with your décor.
sometimes you can find coke things that would fit.such as little bottles.
How about front porch décor? If your interior is contemporary, these may not "fit". I like them stacked like this, and the succulents idea is intriguing (maybe 10-12 scattered around). This is JMO, but I would want to drop a whole potted plant in a hole, rather than fill it with dirt. Alternately, craft/hobby stores carry nice looking fake succulents. That would be easy. Nice find!
How about a sea shell collection in the holes and top with "glass" add legs and you have an end or coffee table. If the holes are solid on bottom you could even add sand to place the shells on. Other Ideas are rock collection instead of sea shells; hang on wall and place Christmas ornaments in sections, (especially appropriate for coca cola ornaments); or how about storing yarn balls if you are a knitter/crocheter?

This gave me an idea we have vitamins sitting on the table in a roasting pan and I think it would be awesome to place each vitamins inside of the holes and maybe in the middle a vase a in the middle. It would be more eye pleasing and easy to move for bigger family gatherings. I know that's not what your looking for.
First , do you want to keep them like they are or are you willing to change the look? If you keep them as is you could use them to hold spice jars or jewelry by hanging it on a wall. The shadowbox is a great idea with a glass top. If you want to change them I still see shelves but you could paint in a bright color and add embellishments to them. Whatever you do enjoy your creation and make it what you like!
use it as a shoe rack for toddlers/small kids
I had some glorious years as a potter. I used one of these to display my tiny pots and a couple of other tiny treasures.
I use mine as a spice rack.
I made a spice rack out of mine and placed it over my stove.

Place each one on a pedestal and top with glass for two really funky/contemporary side tables.
It is not front porch decor but i roll washcloths and have one mounted in guest bathroom and mounted one in kitchen for dishcloths. Left it the way it was and i have gotten many compliments
I must admit that I like pretty shiny new things, therefore, I spray painted my crate with a matte color that matches our bathroom and decoupaged it with complimentary colors. Now I use it to organize my makeup, grooming, and bath products. A place for everything and everything in its place. All of my stuff is within easy reach and my counter is squeaky clean.
I would definitely put them in small pots as to not destroy the original condition of the crates. Cute idea of decorating the succulents for different holidays. Placing some little mini balls around and possibly some small led lights around them.
Such great crates, wish I could find some like that. I'm all about the glass over the top and legs to create tables. Or leave glass off and put lots of tine vases with a single flower in different boxes of the crate, spuratic....
I'm with Lisa. Sidetables! Using the crate as a size guide, buy / cut plywood to fit under the box. Glue to crate. You can buy pre made wood legs at Home Depot or order hairpin legs if you prefer. I would try and get the glass cut to fit inside the lip of the crate so that there are no glass edges hanging out. Tell hubby he did a great job bringing those home. I love them. Does he know they are worth $80 - $100 pair ? ; )
Definitely side tables with glass top, that way you can put different items in the compartments. Also it might be cool to get coke bottles and drill through the bottom to place a rod through so they look like the are holding the table up.
I have one of these crates and have had more fun with it !! Usually I left it on my kitchen countertop, slanted across the corner and filled with spice tins and fun items that were similar to the tins. For example one cubicle would have an old cinnamon tin with a few sticks of cinnamon tied with a ribbon laid or stacked next to it. A tin of red pepper flakes and some dried red leaves from the yard (for effect!) somewhere i found a tiny tobasco bottle, that went up there.... the more i started messing with it, the more i started finding things -- tins and jars and small brightly colored fabric pieces... and voila !! you are a DIYer yourself....... open yourself up and YES hubbie did a FAB job! Have fun! 🙂
