Indeterminate tomato varieties will continue to get taller throughout the growing season and can get quite tall. If you want more manageable tomatoes, buy Determinate varieties. Here's some info on Determinate vs. Indeterminate tomatoes.

Artemis is correct. You're probably planting a different type of tomato than you did before. Determinate tomato plants have a defined (determined) shape, while indeterminate plants grow tall and lanky with no definition of shape. Look on the label or ask your plant seller which type they are when you purchase them.
tomato plants will produce more fruit if they are pruned back and kept at a manageable size instead of just letting them continue to grow.
