We have linoleum type tiles in our back hall. I have successfully painted them several times. This is the main entrance to our house and overall this had held up very well, sorry I don't have a picture.
Oh I had a floor or two like that, first you need to strip it, and the easiest way I've found is to use my carpet cleaner so it sucks up the water as I mop. I use lemon ammonia to strip and put some in the carpet cleaner water reservoir.
I rinse the floor once or twice. Then when dry apply a sealer like Simeonize Wet Look or Finish. Lots of times I find this with people who use Mop N Glow.
Hi Karen, Sweep it well, mop it well so that all grease and dirt are up, then rough it up a bit with sandpaper, and sweep and mop again (roughing it up just a little all over gives the primer and paint something to cling to). So I guess I just gave away the next two steps LOL ;) Prime the linoleum then paint it any way you want to paint it --- solid color, or solid color you let dry and then stencil over top of ;) Or many different colors (like a tie-dye effect?) Well, however you want to paint your floor, after you are finished with your painting you will have to seal it. IF you want it to stay with the same pattern tape over the "grout" looking lines:
