I reuse the right sized box when I have something specific to store. Contact paper (you can buy some at the dollar store) or fabric (think old curtains, etc.) are cheap ways to pretty up storage. For smaller items, I find that all boxes are fair game.
The Dollar store has many great products for storage and lots of ideas to use the cheap ideas on pinterest.
For out of season clothes, put clean clothes in the vacuum bags you can get anywhere and then store under the bed or a high shelf in the closet. It can really give you extra room in closets.
