Hello Patsy! Apparently mice and spiders do not like peppermint -- so several peppermint tea bags is what is needed. Please read through the article at the link I am providing:

Good luck!
i just use peppermint oil. Put a few drops of oil on a few cotton balls, put the cotton balls in spots where spiders or mice hang out or can get in- for instance, underneath the kitchen sink, etc. I updniimalsate the cotton balls monthly. I also have planted peppermint around our home. Keeps many rodents away & I can take a few springs of the leaves, put those into a bottle of cheap spirits( I use vodka), store in a cool dark spot for a few weeks before using. I add a bit of this to my cleaning spray.
I'll add that we pretty much live in the middle of a forest. We choose to not use harsh chemicals inside & around our home. We have animals & bees & don't want to hurt them in any way. That includes the native wildlife. We'd prefer to just deter them from making our home or garage a place where they want to be around instead.
Mint tea bags are supposed to get rid of spiders and ants. I have not tried it, but I know mint outside helps keep them away too
