I believe you have mold or mildew or both. Since your windows don't open, you need to try to get rid of these, which is causing the smell. Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing. They come out for free and check the house, inside and out. Call this toll-free # 1800-373-3411 and ask for the toll free # of this company. I don't know where you live in the US. Call them and see, if there not in your area, see if they can give you another # in your area. I suggest you get something done. This could ruin you appliances from the moisture. Good Luck!
Try a dehumidifier....it could be dampness in the room since there is probably not much air flow in that area. Also, if the area has carpeting or rugs, make sure to keep them clean so they do not get musty.
