What are the cabinets made of?

Clean your cabinets completely...use TSP or a similar cleaner that will remove all dirt, grease build-up, etc. Sand the cabinets lightly to remove any shiny areas, old varnish or sealer, etc. Wipe down with a damp cloth to remove sanding residue. Using a good quality primer like Kilz or Zinsser, prime the cabinets with one coat. Allow to dry completely. Then, using a good quality kitchen and bath paint, paint the cabinets with 2-3 thin coats of paint. Allow to dry completely between coats.
