The bowl is solid wood.
I had my grandmother's dough box. I used it as a planter, for magazines, now my Daughter has it in her log cabin. She uses it in her kitchen to hold small bottled drinks. This may be bigger though than your bowl. I don't think the crack would hurt the value. If it were mine I would probably display it with some nice red apples in it, or balls of yarn, or shiny something. Even if it is not your style, the age of it makes it anyone's style!
I guess to me it is so much of your granny that I would put a copy of her recipe in it and place it up on the wall. You have so much history there. Clean it well and then lubricate it or have someone seal it. How lucky you are to have it.
