I have used bear grease, lard, bacon grease, and anything on hand for more than half a century, you can use anything oily!
Yep! It will work great. To season my pans ( a million years ago when I bought them)....I literally wiped the entire surface with a thin coating of oil and then put the skillet in the oven at about 200 degrees to heat it up. remove from oven, let cool, repeat a few times to really get it seasoned well.
