We don't have pecan trees, however, I use foliar sprays that contain the scent of cypress and other natural ingredients on our apples and grapes. The deer, racoons and other critters avoid them. You have to be diligent in repeat sprays, however, it's all natural and easy. And it works!
My Father would wrap a piece of aluminum around the trunk of the tree. Squirrels can't climb past it, too slippery!!
