Cleaning an old JenAir stovetop

I have an old stainless JenAir stovetop that has heat stains around the burners and I'm not quite sure, but also some crusty material as well. I don't want to scratch the top,. What can I use?

i use paper towels soaked in vinegar and lay them over the stains for an hour or two. Then I add some baking soda and make a paste and lightly scrub as needed
