I have grass growing up in the middle of my bush roses. I want to know if this fall I can prune back the rose bushes and dig them up and pull out the grass and replant the rose bushe?

Ask the plant nursery if there is some thing you can spray on the grass that will not kill the plant...but I just reach in , with gloves of course, and pull it out. Be sure you get the grass roots out. You can do what you suggested, but am afraid the grass will grow back in again next year. Could you put landscaping fabric around your bushes to keep the weeds out? I use Preen every April and July to sprinkle in my flower beds to keep the weeks that grow from seed from growing....really helps

Far simpler to wa until Rose is dormant , then get in and pull the grass out by hand.

There is a spray out there that you can find anywhere that kills grass in flower beds. Just make sure to check if it works around roses, and don't use it on your grass. My husband mistook our for week killer, and we have some very nice dead spots in our law. It takes a few weeks to work, but it works well.

There is no need to remove the rose bushes. Smother the grass out with heavy black plastic.

I concur, year round I pull out the grass, much easier than moving the rose bushes. There are gauntlet gloves available to help protect your hands and arms from thorns and I highly recommend them

I pulled grass out of this flower bed for 3 weeks starting at the end of April. I have used buckets of Preen. That is why I was going to use such a drastic procedure. I wood put down the weed block sheets when I plant them back. I call this Godzilla grass because it is so big and aggressive. I did buy some leather rose gloves because I was really tearing up my arms.

Yes. Deliver a deep watering and 7 days or so later, lever the bushes out. I used a steel crowbar. Then patiently deep weed the soil and mix in a suitable rose fertiliser .Follow the directions on the packet carefully to avoid " burn ". Wear leather welder's gloves to avoid thorns. This is the time to mix in quality compost below the root-depth. Might sound unusual but replant the roses in the identical magnetic compass bearing . It avoids " shock " in transplanting.
