Depends upon the cause of the spots. What plant?

The first thing I try, with any outdoor plant, is putting compost around the base of the plant, then watering like normal for about a week. If this doesn't solve the problem, I then bring out the big guns-I sprinkle Epsom Salts around the base of the plant and mix it into the dirt with my fingers, then I water it like normal for about a week. This should help the black spot problem.
