Toilet Cleaner and a Toilet Brush to start with.......
If you have hard water lines or rusty stains at the bowl's water level, buy a pumice stone. Cheap and available in many cleaning isles at the larger grocery stores or hardware stores. After using normal toilet bowl cleaner (allowing it to set for 10 minutes or so), then mop/brush the inside and under rim surfaces, flush to rinse. Use the pumice stone now on any rings or hard water stains. Keep it wet by dipping into the bowl water often, it will sound like it scratches, but it is softer than the bowl porcelain but harder than the hard water stain. Best cleaner ever for a bowl. (I also use a toilet mop, not the brush that is often shown, the ones with the wire base are the worst, as they can leave metalic scratches in your toilet bowl)
Flush the toilet and then pour a quarter cup of Borax into it. Use your toilet brush to swish it around. Next, add one to two cups of vinegar and let the mixture sit for 30 minutes. You should be able to scrub the stains away!
