Only part of the project will be used as a parking space. The remainder is just for street appeal.

Yes if you don't want to have to do much weeding! If you don't have Proper weed suppressant fabric, you could use generous layers of Newspaper.
If you do not use a heavy weed barrier ,it will be impossible to keep under control
