not enough pollination and two much nitrogen will produce large leaves and little fruit
I don't know but the same thing happened to me and my neighbor this year. I planted the same ground and treated the same as every year, but my plants didn't produce this year.
The heat this year may have caused the blossoms to drop before they were pollinated. Another thing you should not do in your veggies garden is foliar feed. This gives all the nutrition from the miracle grow to the leaves, but not the roots which gives you fantastic vines but little fruit. Always in the veggie garden, feed the roots, not the leaves. In a flower garden you can foliar feed and have great flowers, but not veggies. I hade that mistake one year and hardly got any tomatoes. After that, I used the recipe for fertilizing each watering and used gallon jugs and watered only the soil, now I use the extended release miracle grow which lasts a few months and then renew after the time is past and have great results without the fuss. Use whatever fertilizer you use as directed on the container, don't increase the amount or the time between feedings.
Use Spray N Grow! I have been using it for over 30 years and it works, for veggies and ornamental plants...and you should support them, anyway, as their plant is in Rockport, Texas, that took a direct hit from Harvey. FAMILY OWNED and MADE IN THEUSA... wht's not to love!!!
Frequently the heat keeps pollinating birds away. Go out in the morning, remove male blossom and use it to pollinate female blossoms yourself. I had to do this myself in Las Vegas.
The female blossom has a miniature fruit below it. There will be more male blossoms on long stems. Make sure the pollen of the male blossom touches the female.
and my tomatoes are trying to look like acorns . the bottom get flat and brown.
