I was cleaning out the closet next to the garage that we use for hoodies and boots and some floor cleaners today and I was so shocked that I never noticed this that I had to post this right away lol!
Now that the closet was cleaned I really wanted to get some of the items off the floor. They tend to fall over easily and then you fight to get the dyson back in! And then I thought of .........
I took a cord and slipped it through the handle of my rechargeable dyson hanging it from those builder style wire shelves. Now it hangs in the the back against the wall out of the way until I need it. I then proceeded to hang my swiffer from another cord but this is when I noticed this:
Now insert them straight up through the wire shelving and then twist! They are now secured and lay flat against the wall. Of course I know if you have a wooden shelf this won't apply but for all of us that are always burdened by builder grade wire shelving this is a plus!!
So much better off the floor!
On to the next hack. There's that never ending joke on replacing the toilet paper roll and even though with this hack it doesn't magically replace itself(!) it lasts twice as long and is easier to replace!!
Remove roller
Yep. Add TWO rolls. They don't spin but you just unwind it and they won't fall off! Onto the last hack
After our bathroom remodel we had no place to hang towels! I didn't like throw over the shower door look, or get a rod to hang off the glass door which I could see breaking off, and no available walls long enough! But we had this little space to put up one hook but not another because it impeded a lower cabinet from opening since its drawers pulled open. So this is what we did!
We added a bungee cord that was long enough to keep the top towel hanging freely to dry but short enough to keep the second towel from hanging on the floor! We're lucky to have a floor vent right there so the towels do dry overnight. I replace towels every few days anyways so we don't have a musty towel issue.
We've used this now for 3 years and it works great!
We want to help you DIY, so some of the materials in this post are linked to sellers. Just so you know, Hometalk may collect a small share of sales from the links on this page.

Love the hacks. My vacuum cleaner has a tiny little triangular closet and badly needs more hanging space. The shelf is wood, but you reminded me I could use large cup hooks for the dusters I want to hang. Thank you 😇💖

Who's Wendy??? She's first to reply to virtually every post.
I like the twisting of the handles hack for storage of brooms, Shark's etc. You know something else that would work, that thingy I have in my garage which "traps" the handles so that you can have your long handled garden tools side by side. The handle slips into a spring loaded separater. I have no idea what the technical name for these things are. It would also depend how many handles you wanted kept off the floor. Does anybody understand what I'm trying to say here????
