Hi Lori - I didn't use epoxy on my cabinets. I did my cabinets using Benjamin Moore Advance paint. I highly recommend this paint! My cabinets, a year later, still look fabulous! Here is the article of my project: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/paint/furniture/painting-kitchen-cabinets--19730473

If I understand the question, I would get new hardware for the cabinets. I don't know what the epoxy thing is about. Give us more information. EJL.
I used epoxy on my kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors which I painted fun colors already a few years back, but got tired of them. If you want real WOW factor, epoxy is way to go. No paint can create the amazing effect that epoxy does. If this question is still relevant I'll share more info and photos.
