Hello Ruth! There are a few methods to rid your musty books of that smell. Sprinkle some baking soda in a large plastic bag and carefully insert your book inside and seal. Leave it there for a few hours. Cat litter and charcoal will work, too. If you have several musty books use two plastic tubs or containers -- one bigger than the other. Place cat litter in the larger tub and place the smaller uncovered tub with the books inside into the larger one. Cover the large tub and let sit overnight. Going forward, be sure to store the books in a cool damp-free place.

It's hard, and may not work, but try putting baking soda in between a lot of pages and put the book in an airtight container or zip bag. Adding a piece of an old rag with just a bit if white vinegar may help too. Then put it in a very warm, even hot place. I put mine in my closed up car, it's like an oven but won't csuse a fire.
