If you post a picture, someone might be able to identify it based on the grain and appearance. If that is not an option, take it to your local lumber store....someone there would most likely be able to tell you. Chances are that it is oak or pine....
sand an area on one of the boards and judge by the wood grain or even by the smell of the wood. Doubt it's oak but could be pine or other? However, some old farms would have a wood mill and use trees from the farm. What grows there now? Also, where is the farm? Regional differences could affect the wood used.
Usually barn wood is locally milled cheapest plentiful local growing trees like pine or fir.
I would take it to a home improvement store and use their expertise
A local lumbar yard can help you:)
Thanks for your help!!
