Hi Janetcain488, There are several ways you can update or spruce up a drop ceiling tha tare simple and inexpensive. The first way I would consider is removing all the tiles from the ceiling and sweeping them off really well, then I would put them someplace safe and cover the floor with a tarp and spray paint the beams. That might be all you really need to change things up a bit. You could get some tin tiles to replace the old tiles (for the bang you get they really are relatively inepensive) and so is beadboard (and I love that look too) or simply paint them a different color (or several different colors if you like). Another very creative idea is to cover the tiles with fabric (you can sometimes find fabric on sale at Goodwill stores, and Walmart offers fabric at fair prices too OR just use sheets or fabric pieces from clothing that are large enough to fit a panel and make a "quilted" effect if you don't want just all one pattern)
