Youll need to make sure when you dig it up that you dont sever the roots. Dig a hole alittle bigger than the root ball and a little deeper. Add some tree food to the hole and then plant and water.

Good Morning Sjomeling :) Oh how I love black walnuts! Great memories around them ever since early childhood (tea parties surrounded in the play area of the basement surrounded by big burlap bags of black walnuts being stored nearby, and sneaking into them to get some to eat with my dolls LOL).

I might have the same problem with 2 blue spruce which are still short. I think I saw on a Garden program where branches stick out on tree, dig beyond that. Dig out beyond tips of branches. Dig same size hole and spread roots out and soil to base, not over the base of tree. Not sure if this will help and wait till hot days gone when cooler weather coming.
