If the outlet is in the area that is to be tiled, you must cut the tiles to go around it.
If the outlet is in the area where the tile will be, you will need to cut the tiles to fit around the outlet. In addition, depending on the thickness of your tiles, you may need to extend the outlet from the wall a bit so the cover will fit back onto it. You can buy small plastic outlet spacers at most home centers that can be used for this. It will let you pull the outlet out far enough for the cover to screw right back on after you have finished the tiling.
Cut tiles with a tile cutter and tile snipers to fit around it.
I have been there: done that. Measure the outlet accurately. Add 1/8" to the dimension for clearance. Transfer the dimensions onto the tile face using a permanent fine tip marking pen. Using a 1/8" diameter carbide tip drill, drill a hole in each corner of the outlet layout marks. This will help keeping the tile from cracking when you make the cuts. DON'T USE EXCESSIVE PRESSURE. Let the drill bit do the work. Use a Dremel (or similar tool) with a diamond coated or an abrasive cut off wheel, available at the hardware store. The diamond coated wheel is much more effective and will last much longer. Again, don't use excessive force or pressure. You can do it. Good Luck.
