If the house has moisture problems, you need to find and fix them sooner rather than later - excessive moisture overca period of time, even a short time, is a breeding ground for mold. The health of you and your family is of utmost importance. In the short term, get dehumidifiers for each room and place bowls of charcoal in every room. I would also hire an air quality and mold consultant.
Maybe this will help, and you will also see other videos you can watch.

I would suggest contacting a professional for this issue. It is not healthy to live with this or cover it up.
Check first for mold ... or have someone come in and inspect it. If the house has been closed up for years the chance of mold in the walls is very high. It is deadly and the house may need new insulation and drywall. If there is no mold ... open up and dry it out. A good through cleaning and new paint will take care of the smell.
I agree with getting the areas that are experiencing the moisture issue fixed and taken care of; and then what I would do is first scrub the affected areas that did not have to be fixed/repaired, with a solution of borax and water; borax tends to dehydrate mold and mildew spores left behind and thus, will pretty much keep them from becoming active again; AS LONG AS THE AREA REMAINS DRY; I would also spread Borax, if practical, straight from the box, over the area as well; and yes, I have done this and applied up to a 1/4 inch of borax over certain areas that were repaired and I made sure to wash down an area at least 5 by 5 foot square for large areas; with the straight borax/water mix( read the box for ratios) and then spread the borax from the box over the same area...If its a wall; I washed the studs down, including the base stud, with a double borax solution, then washed the dry wall behind the area down...and put a plastic container with borax in it ( about 1 to 2 cups) in the wall before we sealed it up...I also have taken the extra step of getting the dehydration crystals you can now buy pretty cheaply at the Dollar tree and putting those containers around in areas as well to help keep the moisture down
open boxes of baking soda, put a dehumidifier on,use damp rid
