    Use this recipe:

    2 cups sugar

    1 cup water

    2 tablespoons borax

    1. Place all ingredients into a saucepan and bring to the boil (while stirring).
    2. Boil for 3 minutes.
    3. Using the plastic lids from milk containers place it in the effected room or outside where the ants are.
    4. They will find the sticky liquid no matter where it is placed.
    5. The ants eat this and then take it back to their nest.
    6. Before long there will be no more ants as this mixture will kill them.
    7. S tore remainder in clearly labeled container with "Do NOT Eat" so no one mistakes this for syrup as this is poisionous. "

If they are in your house, esp. kitchen, Optigard ant gel bait works great. Comes in a plastic syringe. Put little puddles in the ant trail, they eat it, take it back to the nest. In a few hours, no more ants. In basement or other general areas, even outdoors, sprinkle diatomaceous earth around. Use 'food grade' inside the house. This kills all kinds of insects, is inexpensive and available at HD, Lowes, etc.

well, Babtcrashes65 -- It appears I mentally confused YOUR name with the person who posted the question below you -- so sorry (I must say this though, that the recipe above for ant killer IS a good one, but I have used it WITHOUT the water (tapping it with the edge of a spoon along the back edge of countertops where I have seen ants --- no pets or kids can get to the poson that way) and by the end of about 4 days they are gone. The first day the scouts find it and get word back to the workers, who swarm the area throughout the second day and night gathering the poisoned food to take to the colony, and on the third day there are considerably less ants, and by day 4 they are gone, or only stragglers left. By the 5th day I guarantee they are gone, as well as the queen who is dead in the colony nest ;) GOOD RECIPE)
