I have used patio paint in the past, but it still peels.

it's all in the prep BUT because you have ALREADY painted it you CANNOT stain it....paint over stain but not stain over paint...it cannot adhere to the surface....okay now that i've mentioned that, scrape all loose paint on it then coat it with ZINNER'S 123 primer then paint it again with porch n patio paint let dry in between coats, should last about 4 years then do the same steps again for best results! good luck!

Was the statue sealed previously? Does it need the sealant removed prior to painting?

unless you can totally seal the entire statuar, it will be difficult to get long term adhesion..moisture is your downfall..

You can use Unicorn spit too!
