If they are wrought iron such as a barbecue, I'd use some fine steel wool pads with a sponge on top to protect your hands, Don't push down too hard - you don't want to remove any finish from the original grill! Maybe use a mild degreaser such Dawn dish soap. Be sure to rinse the grill thoroughly to remove the tiny pieces of steel wool. You sure don't want anyone to swallow those!
Hello Bertha, I recommend mixing 2 cups of white vinegar with 1 cup of baking soda. Pour this solution into a garbage bag. Put your grill racks in the garbage bag and secure it with a rubber band. Let them soak overnight. Next day take the racks out and rinse with cool water. Please DO NOT use a wire brush to clean them. It can leave bristles on your racks which can transfer on to your food. Best of luck to you.
heat the grill and use balled up aluminum foil and a spatula
I use oven cleaner outside on newspaper on both sides in the sun. Then I use a fine wire brush to scrape off the crusty bits that are stubborn. Rinse real well.
ny cleaning lady put mine in the dishwashwr
Put it cold, in a sealed garbage bag over night with 1/4 cup ammonia, on the patio or in the tub. In the a.m., rinse with the hose, and remove any leftover residue with a nylon scrubby. Works for bbq or oven grills.
