There are some sprays etc. you can get at lowes, menards etc. that are pretty good. You need to keep killing all the upshoots as they appear. Or you can get someone to try and did the roots out.
Just keep hitting the patch with boiling water, nothing can survive a scalding! It might take a few applications and if it is really stubborn you could clear some soil to expose some of the roots. I prefer this method because it is non toxic and I don't have to worry about animals coming into contact with chemicals. Good luck!
