I've always used a mixture of vinegar & water to clean my electric coffee maker. Run the mix of vinegar and water through the pot (unless you have a clean cycle, then use that). After it finishes, let it cool - if it's hot and run fresh water through 3-4 times to get rid of the vinegar taste.
