Are you sure they are screws and not nails?! Suzette's suggestion is right. If they are nails just use screws. If they are screws make sure they are DRYWALL screws and not general purpose screws. They both are black and look the same. Drywall screws have a coarser thread so they grip and hold the weight of drywall. I have seen many people use the wrong screws.
