Absolutely! You just need to make sure you use a good "bonding" primer. I like Vaspar stainblocking/bonding latex primer. It's great for laminated, fake wood surfaces as well as wood. It provides a good grip for your paint.

You need to wash them very well then sand them lightly and wipe them down again (this makes sure all grease and dirt are off of them and the wood, although smooth to the touch of your hand, is roughened up just enough to hold on to paint when it's applied). The next step would be primer, and once that has dried you can go ahead and paint your walls, then seal them.

If they are corregated cardboard, I say no, because the paint would seep in unevenly. If the doors are thin wood, then paint them. Wash with Murphy's oil soap, follow directions on the bottle. Next wash any residue from the soap. Make sure their clean and dry. Remove hardware, and doors/draws, and lay the doors on a flat surface, you can do a few at a time. I would use a high gloss, so they can be cleaned with a wet rag and some soap. Two coats is best because their in the kitchen, and they will get grease on them. The hardware can be spray or you can buy new. If you buy new hardware it's a little pricey. When you paint on a flat surface, you don't get streaks and the paint won't chip, wait between the coats, make sure their dry. Good Luck!
