My question as I watched these grandparents was always, "Why are you sweeping your yards, and why is there no grass around your house?" We have grass around ours.
Yes they work, You may get a few get in, but most build up on top and fall to the ground eventually..........
hi Peter, there are really 100's of gutter shields, I used the mesh plastic ones and they were rubbish, "back in the day" they would bunch up not good. The metel ones with holes are better, they stay in place and leaves don't get in. Here in Oz we suggest gutter Gards in the bush areas, especially during summer months, due to Bush fires.
I hope they do, I paid quite a bit extra with my new gutters to have the screens put on. They explained to me it would keep out the large stuf, small stuff that would get through the screens will flush down the down spouts. Last winter was the first winter with them and I did see small things flush down. Seems like they are working.
I've seen the commercials on those gutters, I think their a good idea if you are eldery, or disabled in some way. Think about the cost, and is it going to pay for itself in the long run. That's all the opinion I have. Good Luck!
I used to clean my gutters about 4 times a year of pine needles! Ugh! I found an easy, affordable DIY (saw it on This Old House as a product review) called Gutter Brushes. I do not work for GB, just really, really like the product. Now I remove the brushes about every other year just to check and there is no gunk or debris in my gutters.
