i would fill it in with wood paste and let dry. Sand it a bit then paint over it.
They always chisel out the area for the hinges. I use a paint stick which usually turns out to be the right height, then just trim the size and glue in place, use tape to hold in place. Then fill in with wood filler, sand and paint.
Make a pattern of the indentations, trace it on a piece of hardboard (back of a stiff tablet), cut it out and tack it into the indentations. Cover it with joint compound or wood filler. I use joint compound because it is finer and can be sanded (with fine sandpaper) smoother than wood filler. I also run a damp sponge over the patch to get an ultra smooth surface so that the patches won't show next to the already painted wood. Since the paint on your molding is enamel, you should paint the whole board so the gloss is seamless. If your patch isn't perfect and imperfections show up after the first coat of paint, sand and re-apply the joint compound and re-smooth.
wood putty and then paint
Wood filler, sand and paint. Any hardware store will have what you need. Look for something like this.

Maybe a shim cut to size, nailed or glued in the spot and then painted might work.
Fill in with wood putty that can be painted. Once dry, sand, and paint as desired.
Fill the area cut out for the hinges with wood filler, sand and paint.
Use wood putty to fill in the areas then sand smooths and then paint
