Yes, you can! http://www.ehow.com/how_2083823_restring-pearls.html
You will need a beading needle, thread, lighter and scissors! Good luck!
Perhaps you might want to practice on some cheap beads before you go to the pearls. I also am a do-it-yourselfer but, I would check with someone in craft store in that department to see if the will do or take to jeweler.
I would opt for a professional
Yes you can! As Netprophet suggested, practice on some cheap dollar store beads first till you get the hang of it. I have my mom's and grandma's pearls and have had them restrung. Love wearing pearls!
Take it to a jeweler.
If the pearls are real and are a keepsake, I wouldn't risk it. It is an almost old world skill to string and knot the pearls correctly. If you are going to do it yourself, may I suggest you buy similar-sized beads and practice, practice, practice. When you feel ready, be sure to use the real materials employed to string/tie the pearls from the era from which they came so as not to devalue them.
lookup how to string pearls on youtube. Make sure to use the right thread and practice making the knots on practice thread first. I use silk thread and use a tapistr kneedle to walk the knots down the thread. Find yourself a video and watch it before taking the necklace apart. Good luck.
you can string them on whats called gossamer floss its a squarish cord. Very strong extra stretchy. knots very well. get a pretty clasp at like hobby lobby have very nice ones. make a knotted loop on one end, and loop the clasp on the other ending knot it. heres the link for the pearl clasp like in my picture. its on amazon.com Vikeva 20 Jewlery Necklace Pearl Chain Clasp Buckle Hook 15mm
If they are a old set and possible sentimental I think I would practice with another necklace first. Crafts stores do have everything you need to restring them.
You may want to consider adding a simple knot in between each pearl. This is how expensive strands are made. This way if for any reason the strand should break you won't loose the whole strand. Good luck. I would also practice on a cheap strand.
you can go onto www.firemountain.com and find just anything in jewelry you may want. Prices are reasonable and volume reduces price.
Watch some videos on you tube and practice a lot before you embark on this project. You can do it but if it's a valuable necklace, I would prefer to take it to a professional to do it.
