I placed a hook to run the extra wire/chain across the ceiling. How can I hide this extra wire/chain. My apartment lease do not allow for any electrical changes.

I wouldn't try to hide it. Swag chains are very common, especially in rental apartments, and I don't think they look ugly.
Hello DerrickandMichele, In theater and on stage, when they don't want the audience to see something, they simply paint it the same color as the background. That way nobody can see it. It just fades away into the background. With that being said, you could try to paint the wire/chain the same color as the ceiling. I hope you find this idea useful. Good luck.
You can get plastic tubes that are made to hide the cord if that is running down the wall, they have a few colors, but you should be able to paint them if they don't have the color of the wall. You can get them at home improvement stores in different widths and lengths.
