Hang a large picture over it and then do an arrangement of other pictures.
Make a simple frame that is deeper and larger than the box, staple a decorative piece of fabric over it (like a piece of art canvas) and place it over the box to completely hide it. Then surround it with other frames to look like it was meant to be there and not just hiding a box!
There was a build over an electric panel recent here on Hometalk. I’d do a search for that issue and I’m positive you’ll get some good ideas that would help you out. You could also go to a dollar store, look for a canvas painting , gently take the staples off of the sides , use the wooden frame as a base to maybe build your own type of door , or whatever you want on it, hang it over the panel and just easily pick it up when you need to get into it.

Just a guess, but I wonder if your living room was a later addition, perhaps made my converting a garage into living space? If you rarely need access to the panel, you could put a bookshelf in front of it, but it would probably be safer to hang a large piece of wall decor in front of it, either a painting or a sign.

I had a friend with this issue. We found a painting she liked in a sturdy frame. I mounted hinges on the frame and attached a board to the wall to attach hinges there. This way, the panel was covered, but the painting could easily swing away if you needed to get to the panel box. This one was in a bedroom, so not quite so on display, but an option for you.
Call an electrician. It's probably illegally installed.
Thank you for the idea
Hi,
