You might try "VELCRO Brand - Sticky Back for Fabrics" it's made for fabrics and you can find it on Amazon in rectangle, tape, or ovals - https://www.amazon.com/VELCRO-Brand-Sticky-Fabrics-sewing/dp/B00N0W89Z8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505926339&sr=8-1&keywords=velcro%2Bfor%2Bcloth&th=1

When you buy arm protectors look for ones with the rubber like coating on the back. or you can add a piece of that rubber waffle like shelf paper to the back yourself either sewing it on, or using spray adhesive.

Have you tried using a rubber backing to keep covers in place?

Hi Bettina, tried the rubber backing, no go. Sharon, another person who replied, suggested spray adhesive. Might work-Thanks

Use a small piece of the material which you have cut to fit) that is used to hold throw rugs down. Then place your fabric on top.

My grandmother used to use small tea towels and pinned them on underneath

Have you tried leather cleaner and leather conditioner. Sometimes I have to use it on the head rest of my recliners left there by hair products. Might have to clean it a couple of times to get the stickiness off...I am assuming it is from hands being placed on the sofa arms. Otherwise Lisa's suggestion of the material to hold throw rugs down may work.
