as long as you don't mind the surface getting etched, Oven cleaner may do the job. A wire wheel (paint remover) could work as well.
Hooe that helps

Flax oil has been my nemesis time and again. I suggest taking it in and having the entire piece dipped by a professional. Should you choose to sand it, get a powerful sander and lots of 60 grit sand paper. Good luck.
This is a guess but I'd try some flax seed oil. "They" recommend using oil to clean off grease and it works surprisingly well. Give it a chance to soak in a bit and see how it goes.
surfaces but which ones
Try baby powder, corn starch or diatomaceous earth the small particles might just do the trick of removing the oil from the item. Then wash with dish soap
Have you tried fresh flax seed oil? Maybe flax seed oil disolves flax seed oil. If the naptha didn't disolve it I'm guessing that it's not coming up via solvent. Maybe you could put a wet rag over it and steam it with an iron, scrape some and repeat the process. Be careful not to get a steam burn.
