Utilize the space under the bed by using totes.
Choose vertical storage units whenever possible. For the bedroom, choose tall chests of drawers rather than lower wider dressers with mirrors above -- put a full length mirror on the back of your bedroom door or closet door instead.
Shelves installed near the top of the wall (such as above bedroom door height) can hold plastic containers for storing less frequently used items and seasonal items.
In lieu of coffee table or ottoman, make that piece do dual duty by choosing the kind with storage. Using foot lockers for end tables and/or coffee table/ottoman provides storage while still serving the purposes of a table.
