Utilize all of the space that you have. Hanging baskets from the ceiling works well to store wash rags and hand towels, shelves behind the toilet also offer good storage. A shelf above the door works well for extra toilet paper. Shower caddies help keep toiletries organized and out of the way.

Small Bathroom Makeover
I have two small bathrooms in a 1950s ranch and I kept them simple-- not too busy. I kept the paint colors simple and clean, but went for natural materials for the floors and walls-- marble on the walls with glass accents and a stone-like ceramic tile on the floor. The vanities couldn't be huge, so I went for stylish and practical-- a bowl sink on an old nightstand/dresser that was painted in one and a simple vanity in the other with plenty of drawers for storage.
My suggestion is to look to Pinterest or some of the online sites and gather ideas of things that you like and don't like. The budget determines what you can and can't do, but most of us can knock out tile or repaint walls.
