How can I dry out my garden soil?

I have planted hostas and the soil seems too wet therefore attracting slugs which eat the hostas.

    You could put diatomaceous earth around your Hostas for slug control. They don't like the sharp edges around their bellies.

    Loves hostas has. Try supporting the leaves up off of the soil using a tie or ring.

    Hostas, being the plant they are, shade the ground to keep it moist. They are drought tolerant. Use diatomaceous earth or crushed egg shells to keep them away. You can also sink small dishes of beer that they go to and drown.
