I like perennials such as hostas, astilbes, lily of the valley. Daylilies will tolerate the shade as will some irises and Oriental lilies.
I like the hostas, they really fill in their space. I have both hostas and lily of the valley in complete shade and they are really doing well.
Foamflowers bloom in spring. Heucheras, coral bells, columbine, solomon' s seal, lady's mantle, jacob's ladder, hardy begonia, and bleeding heart plants also do well. In shade. Hostas come in many colors and sizes from miniature to giant.
My shady yard is filled with Hostas!!
