In my area the pots freeze solid, negative digits are possible. All my potted plants get sent to my basement....it's unfinished and has floor drains. I have grow lights in place. Ive heard that other will put them in garage, after cutting them back a bit. Your county extetion office master gardener will have the know how for your area.

If possible, find a small spot in the garden or yard to relocate your plantstemporarily for the winter. Plant them directly in the ground. You can even bury them, pot and all. After you put them in the ground, add a nice, thick layer of mulch for extra insulation.

plants are always better off in the ground during winterin freezing climates. If at all possible, find a spot in your garden to either plant the plantstemporarily for the winter or bury them potand all. Mulch with 2-4 inches of bark or leaves, once the soil has frozen.

If you are referring to house plants, they should be re-potted in the next size pot with drainage holes and sprayed down with horticultural soap.Move them slowly to less light, leave them for a few days ,then bring them inside in the recommended lighting for your specific plants
