Loretta on Feb 28, 2014If those cabinets look as good in person as they do in the picture I think you would be crazy to change them. The bar you could consider going gray but I wouldn't even do that. Sorry, I know that wasn't what you wanted to hear.Helpful Reply

DeMarie I on Mar 01, 2014Can't tell from the photo but if the cabinets are really good wood, I probably would only do the island. A lighter grey barn wood look would be great. (I think you could use Annie Sloan's chalk paint on it and get a great look, also). Rustic usually means warmer, or darker woods (unless you're along the coastal areas and then it's more pickled wood). It looks like the glass backsplash is in grayish blue tones, so the grey weather barn wood look would tie into it. I can't tell if there's any grey in the granite, but if there is, that would also tie in. Island done in a different color or wood usually looks great. Good luck on whatever you choose to do and congrats on getting a vacation home to make memories in.Helpful Reply

Michele Eures on Mar 01, 2014I think the cabinets are gorgeous and would be reluctant to touch them. If you want a more rustic touch, then change out the items you have on display on top of the cabinets first to see what that does for the room. And maybe change the fabric on the counter stools. Or you could paint the walls a warmer color. I would try everything else before painting that wood.Helpful Reply

Rachel on Mar 01, 2014I agree that the cabinets are gorgeous as they are; I am also concerned that in grey they would clash with the granite counters. I notice that the backsplash seems very modern; perhaps replacing that with something homey, and getting new hardware might up the rustic factor.Helpful Reply

Melissa Leach on Mar 02, 2014I wouldn't paint your cabinets if they are in as good of shape as they appear in the photo. Like others have suggested, paint just the island. Be sure to change all your hardware...you could always spray paint them. If they grayish paint color fights with the granite replace with a solid black surface of your choice. Good luck.Helpful Reply

Sweet Peas Charm on Mar 02, 2014Well, I'm not the majority, for sure, but I would definitely paint them! I love the distressed look of wood and think it would be beautiful in your kitchen. You could use Plaster Paint and wouldn't even need to prep the surface...just wipe them clean and dry and grab your paint brush! Plaster Paint is my newest passion and I'm not sure why I ever painted before finding it! :-) Here's more information about it...and be sure to watch the short video of the Fox News interview...it's pretty great! http://sweetpeascharm.com/blog.html Enjoy your Sunday!Helpful Reply

PaulChau on Jul 13, 2016The kitchen actually looks really good and if it's in working order, I would put off redoing the kitchen for a while until you can get the research and measurements down pat. It'll be a good idea to hunt for the best bargains for materials while you're at it too!Helpful Reply
